The origination of sex lube comes from the lubricant that surgeons used to use to assist during medical procedures. Today, we use personal lubricants for sexual practices and to make them much more comfortable and enjoyable. Sex lube is a specialized lubricant that works to reduce friction with the vagina, penis and anus. There are so many types of sex lubes, but some popular ones are: KY Jelly, Astroglide, EROS, Durex PLAY, Sliquid, Ready lube and Analeaze. Each type of lube provides a different service so be sure to think about what you want and need before purchasing something you know nothing about.

The different types of sex lube include: water based, silicone based, oil based, J lube, plant based oils and specialty lubricants. Water based sex lube is by far the most popular and best selling one on the market right now. It is the easiest to clean up after having intercourse and it does not affect the latex in the condom. Although condoms are waterproof, elastic and very durable, they can be easily damaged if you use a sex lube that is incompatible. Oil based and silicone based lubricants do not react well with the latex that is in condoms, so when you combine them you run the risk of being exposed to sexually transmitted diseases as well as pregnancy.

J lube is the most inexpensive of all personal lubricants and is not used as a sex lube as often as some of the others. It is most commonly used as a veterinary lubricant, but some people do use it as a sexual lube. Typically, it is purchased in a powder consistency that is made up of polyethylene oxide and sucrose. When this powder is mixed with water it produces a very slippery lubricant.

Surprisingly, many people choose to use plant based oils as personal lubricants for their sexual needs. This can include things like vegetable oil, coconut oil, olive oil, vegetable shortening or Crisco. Some prefer Crisco over any other one though because it is completely odorless.

Specialty lubricants qualify as anything that causes a physiological or physical change to the area that it is applied to. An example of this is a warming lubricant which causes a heating sensation to the applied area. Some popular brands for this type of sex lube are Firefly Natural lubricant; Wet fun flavors, OMy, Sliquid, KY Jelly, and Thermal warming liquid. There are many different types of sex lube to choose from, so take you time and have fun shopping around.
