Using a condom is one of the best ways to protect you from being infected by sexually transmitted diseases or STDs. As a result, you should use a condom when you are having sex, no matter you have a lot of partners or only one partner.

So the question is how you should choose a condom. In this article, male condom will be focused. It is because male condoms are a lot more common than female condoms. As you will be well aware, male condoms are used as a covering on the penis. To this end you will probably understand that it should fit the penis very well. As a result, you should choose a size which is most suitable for the size of your penis. If you have a big one, you should choose a larger condom and vice versa.

Considering the materials, condoms are usually made of latex or polyurethane. There are says that latex condoms are more reliable. However, the fact is that a condom has to be undergone a lot of different tests. You can only buy it if it passes all these tests. From this point of view, both materials should be reliable. You can choose it based on your preference. As a matter of fact some men state that they feel more sensual when using a latex condom!

If you choose a latex condom, remember that you should never apply oil based lubricants on it. Oil bases lubricants such as Vaseline can weaken the latex. This kind of lubricant may even make the condom to break! In fact, most latex condoms come with some water-based lubricants and it may not be necessary to apply lubricants to the condom.

As mentioned, another material that is used to make condoms is polyurethane. In most case condoms made of this material will be thinner than a latex one. The thinnest condom till now is made of polyurethane. As a result, some men will stick to this kind of condom since a thinner one will imply increase in sensitivity. Another advantage of polyurethane over latex is that both oil based and water based lubricants can be applied to the condoms.

It may seem that a condom made of polyurethane is a better choice. However, it is not totally true. As discussed, there are people who maintain that they feel better with latex condoms. It is in fact merely a matter of choice. You should choose the one which make you feel the most comfortable!
